Gianfranco Bria is Maria Skłodowska Curie global Fellow and Adjunct Professor of Islam and Gender at Roma Tre University; he is also Research Fellow and Adjunct Professor of Islamic Law at Sapienza University of Rome and associate member of the Cetobac (CNRS - EHESS) in. He is the Editor-in-chief of Occhialì - Journal on Mediterranean Islam. He is also scientific member of the research project on Muhammad in the mirror of his community in early and modern Islam (ANR-DFG, three-years project: 2017-2020) and of the project Red Golden Legend (ANR). He obtained his Ph.D. at EHESS and UniCal; his doctoral research explored Islamic and Sufi revival in post-socialist Albania.

Didattica

Lesson timetable Lessons of the course of Islam and Gender, for the academic year 2024/2025, will begin on 9th October. They will be held on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 4, and on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 1 "Italianistica".

Ricerca

His research deals with Islamic authority, sainthood and charisma in the Balkans, the embodiment experiences of daily-lived Islam (practices, beliefs and rituals) and Muslims history in southern-eastern Europe since late modern Ottoman Empire.
