NYU-ROMA TRE PERMANENT GLOBAL SEMINAR
Religious Diversity in Italian Urban History
The Seminar is a global community of scholars from multiple academic institutions and disciplines devoted to the study and the discussion of religious diversity – past and present – of Italian urban life. The Seminar aims to discuss how religious groups have impacted Italian urban spaces; how religious diversity has been regulated, experienced and perceived in urban spaces; how urban spaces conformed to and reframed religious practices, in particular in places of worship; and how religion places can be considered a cultural innovation marker in the migration process and the process of urbanization. The object is globally conceived and, as such, includes urban spaces both inside and outside Italy.
Il Seminario è una comunità globale di studiosi provenienti da un’ampia varietà di istituzioni accademiche e discipline, dedicata allo studio e alla discussione della diversità religiosa, sia passata che presente, nella vita urbana italiana. Questo Seminario ha l’obiettivo di analizzare l’impatto dei gruppi religiosi sugli spazi urbani italiani; esaminare come la diversità religiosa sia stata regolamentata, esperita e percepita in tali spazi; indagare il modo in cui gli spazi urbani si sono adattati e hanno ridefinito le pratiche religiose, soprattutto nei luoghi di culto; e considerare i luoghi religiosi come indicatori di innovazione culturale nei processi di migrazione e urbanizzazione. L’approccio è globale, includendo quindi spazi urbani sia all’interno che all’esterno dell’Italia.
