I am Associate Professor of English and Translation Studies at Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Roma Tre University, where I serve as Head of the Research Committee.

Didattica

I teach modules on English Language and Linguistics, Translation Theory and Practice, and Audiovisual Translation at both BA and MA level.

I am a member of the board of the International Doctoral Programme in Studies in English Literatures, Language, and Translation, based at the Department of European, American and Intercultural Studies, Sapienza University of Rome, and of the Doctoral Programme in Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures, Roma Tre University.

I have given invited lectures at a number of universities in Europe, including University College London, University of Manchester, Bangor University, University College Dublin, Université Bordeaux Montaigne.

Ricerca

I am a member of the ITEM research group on ‘Multilinguisme, Traduction, Création’ (Institut des Textes et Manuscrits Modernes, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Paris) and one of the founders of the research group TRADAC (Audiovisual Translation and Accessibility). I am Vice President of the Italian James Joyce Foundation and a board member of CIRSIL (Centro Interuniversitario di Ricerca sulla Storia degli Insegnamenti Linguistici).

In 2019 I received a Helm Fellowship to support research at the Lilly Library, Indiana University, and a Harry Ransom Center Research Fellowship in the Humanities to research at the Ransom Center, University of Texas at Austin. In the same year I served as Visiting Professor at the University Bordeaux Montaigne (France).

In 2022 I was awarded the Honourable Mention for the AIA Book Prize 2022 for the monograph 𝘑𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘑𝘰𝘺𝘤𝘦, 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳. 𝘈𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘛𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘩-𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘺 𝘌𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦 (2020).

My research focuses on a wide range of topics in English Linguistics and Translation Studies, ranging from audiovisual translation to cross-cultural pragmatics, corpus stylistics, history of English language teaching, youth language, conversational narrative, literary translation, translingualism and gender studies. I have also written extensively on James Joyce and Ezra Pound.

I have published widely within the area of Audiovisual Translation. My current research interests include cross-cultural representation, historical and archival approaches, and translator manuscript genetics. My most recent work focuses on Stanley Kubrick and film translation. Other recent projects deal with translators’ archives, collaborative self-translation, and film translation in the silent era.

Among my publications are two monographs: 𝘑𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘑𝘰𝘺𝘤𝘦, 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳. 𝘈𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘛𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘌𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺 𝘛𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘩-𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘺 𝘌𝘶𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘦 (2020) and 𝘐𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯 𝘑𝘰𝘺𝘤𝘦 (2013). I have co-edited numerous volumes, including among others 𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘈𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 (Routledge, 2018), 𝘑𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘑𝘰𝘺𝘤𝘦’𝘴 𝘚𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 (Bloomsbury, 2018), 𝘋𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘶𝘻𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦 (Bompiani, 2018), 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘋𝘶𝘣𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘨: 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘛𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 (Benjamins, 2019), 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘪𝘯 𝘈𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘤𝘩: 𝘚𝘺𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘤 𝘗𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 (Textus, 2021).
