Department of Humanities overview

Diparetimento di eccellenza - Diparetimento di Studi Umanistici

The Department of Humanities (DSU) at Roma Tre University is a center of excellence for research in the main humanities areas. Its academic activities stand out for their high quality and extensive network of collaborations and exchange agreements with academic institutions and research centers in many countries.

The Department’s main areas of interest include Italian language and literature, the Greek and Roman worlds, history, geography, religions, art history, and archaeology.

The Department Link identifier #identifier__45630-1academic offer  is  broad and multidisciplinary, it includes 3 Bachelor’s degree programs, 8 Master’s degree programs (4 of which have international curricula that lead to double degrees), 5 advanced professional courses of II level and 2 PhD programs, each offering two academic tracks.

Students can rely on a strong network of connections with the job market, both public and private, which includes schools, archives, libraries, museums, research institutes, newsrooms, publishing houses, digital publishing companies and media.

The Department has been selected among the 180 Departments of Excellence in the Italian university system for the 2023–2027 five-year period, confirming the quality of its research and educational commitment.

The DSU investment project aims to enhance and strengthen a multidisciplinary line of research and education centered on the pairing of “document and monument.” At its core is the integrated study of textual, documentary, monumental, iconographic and audiovisual corpora, across a wide chronological span—from the archaic age to the modern and contemporary periods through Antiquity, Late Antiquity, the Middle Ages, Humanism, and the Renaissance.

This project takes shape through a coordinated and coherent strategy developed across multiple areas: scientific output, internationalization, talent attraction, teaching innovation, dissemination of research results and knowledge valorization.
