Migration and work in the contemporary age: the Italian case

The course aims to explore the multiple links between migration and work in contemporary history, with particular attention to the Italian case.
The period covered ranges from the mid-19th century to the present day.
The course traces the evolution of national and international labor markets, analyzing the role played by migration in the various periods examined. The types of mobility addressed include internal migration, emigration, immigration, seasonal migration, and commuting.
The historical periods of reference are: the period immediately prior to unification, the phase following national unification, the Giolitti era, fascism, reconstruction, the 1960s and 1970s, the 1980s and 1990s, and the most recent phase.
