The student will have knowledge for the study of Greek and Latin papyrus. In the seminar context, it will also examine the examination of a large number of papyri, investigating their characteristics of form and content.

Programma
The course consists of an introduction to Papyrology. The aim of the course is to give a comprehensive picture of: the most important archaeological findings; the characteristics of the papyrus paper and other ancient materials used for writing (parchment, pottery, wood, etc.); the different kinds of documents and books found on papyrus, their forms and script; the administrative history of Hellenistic and Roman Egypt. The course also teaches how to decypher, transcribe, and make an edition of a Greek or Latin text found on papyrus.Testi Adottati
