Programma

Second semester.
The course will be conducted primarily remotely, through recorded lessons available to all in asynchronous mode. To access the Teams platform, videos, and uploaded materials, you must first register for the course on the Moodle platform.
Course start date: in-person meeting broadcast online, Thursday, February 26, 2026, at the Sala Riunioni Mondo Antico.

The course examines the main data of ancient Christian literary production, from the first to the fifth century, of which will be highlighted both the peculiarities, as well as the relationship with Jewish, Greek and Latin literatures. Main topics: Proto-Christian literature (letters, evangelical literature, apocalypses), formation of the New Testament canon, writings from the sub-apostolic period, Greek apologists, "heretical" and heresiological literature, martyrial literature, Tertullian, Cyprian, exegetical literature, Origen, historiography, authors from Cappadocia, ancient literature, Hilarius, Ambrose, Jerome, Rufin, hagiographic literature, Augustine.

The texts commented in the classroom not present in the anthology will be provided by the teacher.

Modalità Frequenza

The course is mainly distance learning and pre-recorded. The recordings are freely available on the Teams channel to all students enrolled in the course (enrollment via the Moodle platform). Three face-to-face meetings are scheduled at the beginning, middle, and end of the semester. Educational excursions may be organized to places of worship and/or catacombs and/or museums of significant interest for the study of Christian antiquity. Start: Thursday, February 26, 2026, in person at the Sala Riunioni Mondo Antico, with live streaming.
