Programma

MOMENTS OF DANTE'S BIOGRAPHY AND AUTOBIOGRAPHY IN 'VITA NOVA', 'CONVIVIO' AND 'COMMEDIA'
The course will be dedicated to some central episodes of the ‘Vita nova’, ‘Convivio’ and ‘Commedia’ in which Dante refers to his own biography (with particular reference to theme of exile) and interprets his poetic autobiography (the love for Beatrice and the backsliding caused by the ‘donna gentile’ in the juvenile libel, the love for the ‘donna-filosofia’ in the philosophical treatise, the return of Beatrice in the poem). Particular attention will be paid to the three great songs mentioned in the ‘Commedia’ (‘Amor che nella mente mi ragiona’, ‘Donne ch’avete intelletto d’amore’, ‘Voi che ’ntendendo il terzo ciel movete’) and to the problem of the poet’s positioning within the canon of the classical and Romance traditions.
