The course aims at teaching the History students how to frame social facts, adopting the logics, the methodologies and the tools traditionally used by sociologists. Therefore, the basic paradigms within which the theoretical and conceptual frameworks of sociology are inscribed, as well as the main directions of social research, will be explored and compared.

The path will lead to the main interpreters of contemporary society.
Finally, we will focus on the social construction of youth identity in neoliberal society, by the study of an empirical research on entrepreneurial activation policies and on their recipients.
For the final monographic section, we will adopt the essay by Paolo Inno "Creativi per forza. Identità valori e strategie di vita del giovane impresa di sé" (Meltemi, Milan 2022).

The course will focus on the basic theoretical and conceptual frameworks of sociology, observed in their historical development and in relation to social changes. The exploration will be structured around the main paradigms adopted by the discipline:- Methodological holism (Durkheim, functionalism, structuralism, social systems theory).
- Methodological individualism (Weber, Pareto, phenomenological sociology).
- Formal sociology (Simmel, symbolic interactionism, sociology of emotions).
- Marxism (Marx, critical theory).
